I like heating the shaft with my heatgun. Makes the wood fibers more cooperative. As with any new endeavor you will need practice no matter which method you use. I started out using the compression method like mentioned above. I used a round large shanked screw driver.

I bought an Ace arrow roller from 3Rivers. Took a bit of getting used to, like Shadow says. So far, all I've used is cedar and it cooperates a lot better than Douglas Fir.

That IS funny! Tony...it really is a surprise to me as much as you enjoy fiddling with arrows that you ain't got any woods... that is a puzzle!
