First time fletching arrows... Helical or offset?

#1 Post by MNGreenHunter »

I am going to be fletching some arrows for a 40# recurve.

I am right handed and I plan to use a 2 degree offset instead of helical.

Should I fletch every feather with 2 degree or just one of them? Decades ago at scout camp, we just used straight fletching setups. (Blitz)

I will be using a Grayling fletcher with 5" shield cut feathers.

i like them all. but to me right helical fly's better and a little better accuracy i think. but use want you like to shoot. Fletch some of each and shoot them and that's the only way to get a good ideal of which ones you like.
good luck and keep us posted. thanks, denny

All the feathers on the same shaft should be put on the same way.

I agree with the above, all feathers the same on each shaft, and try some helical, offset and straight, use what shoots best from your bow! Truth be told, sometimes I shoot best when I loose a fletch and only have two feathers on my shaft.

I second; or third the above, keep them the same. Some of my arrows are left and the others right; I can't tell any difference in performance, maybe if I were a better shot I would..lol. I use some single bevel right helical broadheads and with those I use the arrows with right wing feathers. Other than that I will use both, I use them simply because when my friends give me their Turkey wings I get both sides, no use letting them go to waste.

I shoot a 50 lb Recurve & a 45 lb. Long bow. And I am using E Z Pro, with a 4 Degree Offset on it, Would this be ok to use also,? Would like some feedback on this, Being a Newbie to Traditional Archery etc.

I think you are fine with that redtail. I know of folks who use virtually straight fletching. Many use offset instead of helical and it works great.

Most of the Native American Indians straight-fletched and did OK with them...

I use helical on wood arrows if I'm burning 5" feathers and just a slight offset for the rest of my arrows. Usually carbons I'll burn 4-1/4" feathers and fletched with my bitz clamps zeroed out. I use as much helical as possible when doing any arrows with broad heads. I know some guys say you don't need it but I just like doing them that way.

I'm the same Nate. I use helical though on everything. It's just how I originally set up years ago, and never had a reason to change it. I do see a lot of archers not using it though. But I like a hard spinning arrow!
