Yep....read as much in the bowyers bible several years ago. Osage is the best.....others work, at least for a while....but as I mentioned before, if you want something lasting for all your hard work....go osage.

Just finished the book!! Wow I am so much richer for having read that. Probably will be a constant companion through the years. Stave arrives tomorrow!! I work all weekend and we will start giving the stave a complete look over on Monday. Tuesday I get some more money and we will go through my tools and the book to see if I need to make the hotbox and steam tubes he describes. Probably will because I want to do this right. Also will be pichking up some shellac which Torges uses throughout the process for various things. Haven’t decided on finish yet but have a long way to go. Currently thinking about shellac and paraffin wax. Take two is going to be much smarter than take one. Good thing is he stave is dried already so once we give it a good look over we can get to debarking and ring chasing. Stave coming should be at 68” long and hoping final bow weight is around 50-60lbs. But let’s not get ahead of ourselfs. The prime directive is a hunting bow. :) more to come.

Kirk to your question about round va flat. His argument makes sense. Wood being such a dynamic medium we would do well to work with it than force it against its will. A house divided will surely fall. What do we gain from completely flat? Looks? Torges has a life time of experience and wisdom gained by experience, I won’t be too eager to dismiss it. I will be following along with clay Hayes’videos also.

Wow wow wow it’s here!!!! It looks awesome guys. Stave is 70 inches so I have a little extra room and the stave is mighty deep. Who knows maybe get a kids bow out of it too!! Let’s hope. This stave cost a pretty penny.
