Today was a challenging day on the shave horse. The good news is that I am over half way on the ring. I believe that I am pretty close to having a violation but do not have one as of yet. I’m going a bit faster but still taking it slow. The bad news is that this stave is throwing yet another challenge my way. In one of the picture you will notice a fissure in the chases ring. I have no idea how deep it goes. The good part is that it is right at the halfway point so I can lay out the bow in such a way as to get rid of it when roughing out the bow. So far the challenge list is as follows: huge knot, propeller twist, river bend in limb section, and now a fissure. Osage is definitely not the easiest wood to work. Confidence a little shaken considering this stave could have bought me another bow... risk vs reward. Tallyhoe!!!

Well, consider it tuition paid in full. I think you are doing an outstanding job and continue to eagerly wait for updates.

The fissure is even worse than imagined. I may go down another ring but might not be enough. Ugh....

200 bucks after shipping is steep tuition to learn a lesson about imperfections in wood.

Agreed....maybe with a crack like that he might send another stave? It's not your fault you know....

Not sure shadow. Not sure. Haven’t given up yet either. But this is not an easy stave especially with propeller twist I’m dealing with.

For that kind of cabbage, I'd at least ask.

It wouldn't hurt to ask.
