Wet formed knife sheath for L-39

#1 Post by Ron Kulas »

I make a lot of knives and knife sheaths and holster and general leather working. Making the old new again is a treat. Here is one of them.

L-39 is a great old knife from a simpler time. It needed a restoration so I gave it a new lease on life.

Getting over it a little now. So how about the print or design in the leather, what do you use for that?

Ron, you are making me take a second look at my ol' Western. Can't quite see the model number in your ad there...which one would you say it is?

That is the original sheath, BTW...

That looks a lot like a 648 (because of the blood groove) All those westerns came in stacked leather or jigged bone and some in wood.

I dont use patterns or designs. I freehand. Its more fun that way.

Looks nice .
I do a wet for holster type of sheth by wrapping the knife with aluminum foil and then plastic wrap .
Wet the leather and stitch it around the knife .
Let it dry and take the knife out .
Then I put the knife back in and put a stitch above the hilt to lock the knife in the holster .
Just another way to make a sheath without a flap or loop
