Blue tongue

#1 Post by Carpdaddy »

It's hitting bad here in Ky, lots of dead and sick deer. A friend has one of those fancy cams that send the picture to your phone as it takes them. I just got this one, it looks rather sick to me.

That's a prime example of why feeders is so unhealthy for deer. Sick ones come in and feed, and so do healthy ones, spreading disease much easier from how close they get to each other crowding in on the pile, and sometimes Ingesting what drops out of the mouths. Wild food is broadcast much wider and few times will you see them bunched up feeding. Instead they scatter to browse in order to get enough. That healthy deer won't be healthy for long if it's not blue tounge.

Is there CWD there in Kentucky?

A few years ago Blue tounge hit hard in areas of Kansas. It and other hemorrhagic diseases too. Very often with these diseases, you'll find dead deer in, or near water.

This is also called EHD. It usually comes in dry times but this has not been one of those years, at least didn't think so. It happened not many years back and I continually found dead deer. The reports of dead deer in this area is quite high right now. And yes; we have CWD sometimes also.

I didn't know about the immunity. Can you back that up with documentation?
