Tuning woodies, make sure to double check spine!
I decided I needed some wood arrows to shoot through my Pika and thought I would do some bare shaft tuning.
I selected a 50-55 spine shaft to start out with. Cut it to 28" to BOP, glued a 125 grain tip on it and let er rip into my target.
this had me scratching my head for a little bit until I double checked the shaft I used. Turns out it was a 45-50
oops

That sucks. I've done that sort of thing myself before.

5 lbs difference shouldn't give you a breaking result.

I was surprised it broke too, maybe a flaw in the grain?

This was my first try at it, those 45-50s shoot perfectly out of my bear minuteman though so it wasnt a total failure.

I’m not smart enough about woodies to comment on this. But this I did notice...
1. That’s a small target. 2. You appear to be shooting indoors.
3. You were bareshafting in spite of #1 & 2.
4. My diagnosis is... you a brave feller, or a single one, and a good shot.

I am probably flirting with disaster shooting inside, but when the cat is away the mice will play
Found a 50-55 shaft and it is working out better for me

What's wrong with this picture? All you married bowhunting fellers, how many things can you spot that would get you in deep weeds with the missus?Longtrad wrote:I am probably flirting with disaster shooting inside, but when the cat is away the mice will play

I'll start:
1) Very tiny target block appears to be sitting atop a very 'spensive-looking stainless steel Whirlpool appliance
Aim small, miss small!
