Can't beat tier one tools. I am loving both draw knives for different reasons. This one came in the mail yesterday.... two cherries draw knife handles so well...... still chasing a ring. I have about 8 inches clear and going well.

Totally just violated a ring..... oh well more practice for me...... however I really do no have a ring bigger than an 1/16 inch on this bow. With that said, I violated a ring while scraping with a pocket knife. I think I should invest in a piece of Osage with bigger rings. I'll go insane chasing rings this difficult and fragile. Opinions? I could always just back it? Really didn't want to mess with backing though

I agree Dave. Even if it can be done, it might take so many trys that you may need to back anyway. It doesnt take much or anything fancy. You can back with a number of various simple materials, without getting extravegant or consumed with time robbing processes. If it were me, Id back the bugger plainly and simply, and move on..

Oh yea; I vote for sinew backing! you may not be off bad as you think, keep working at it, even if you ruin it continue for the practice.

I'm gonna pause for a few days and come back to it. Fake rattle snake seems like a cheap and cool backing too. I tried something after my violation and created a bigger violation yikes!! Time to slow down and take a break and try again. The rings are so small on this piece I violated it with a pocket knife.

Well I have been working the past couple days and that is the reason for no updates. I'm gonna back the Osage bow with faux snake skin as the rings are literally too small to chase. Also harvested a piece of oak for another bow. Which one will be finished first? No idea, here are some pictures of the log I harvested.

Man you sure can make the bark fly, and in a bed to top it all! I know there is a joke or two in there but I'm going to pass!  You should know though that snakeskin (real or fake) is a nice decoration but not a protective backing.
