Hmmm they made good cuts on cedar for me. But now that I use spruce they do not.

The trick to using one of those is to slightly torque the shaft so it turns stiffer in the cutter.
Holding the cutter in the left hand with the blade up, try bending the shaft slightly bowing away from you with your right hand a little ways from the cutter. About 10" or so.
That will help it to cut with less grabbing and chatter.

I will try that, not like I have a shortage of 5/16 birch. Dave, are the 5/16 going to be heavier than the 11/32 spruce then? If I recall, the 5/16 were about 400 grain shafts, add 100 gr point nock and feathers should get them to around 525?

Yes the will likely be heavier. Unfortunately work got in the way. Should put finish on this week.

Looking forward to it, I got some in the process also. Key to good woodies is to be patient with the process. Give time for the shaft to hold when straightening, then allow stain, sealer, cresting and glue to dry fully. Sometimes the shafts themselves will have some moisture content. All has to be completely dry prior to sealing for them to stay straight. I keep some raw shafts in the garage. They have to be brought in when moisture outside is high so they can fully dry out. If not, they dont seem to stay straight.

Tonight we put in less than 5 minutes of work. An old sock the polyurethane and the shafts that are in need of finishing. For the 1st 3 shafts I dip the tip of the sock each shaft. This gets the sock saturated and afterwards I only dip once every other shaft. Holding the nock end ensures that I can get finish on the entire shaft. I move the shaft in a circular fashion and lean the finished shaft against a wall dry overnight. er this I will lightly sand with steel wool in repeat 2 more times. Hand rubbed circular motion ensures a thin even coat. Technically after 4 hours the shafts will be ready for their next coat.

The extra 12 shafts will receive nocks and finish as well but remain in that state until needed. I keep 12 and reserve and replace as needed. Next will be fletching all but one shaft and then I will show you all the tuning process for me.

Third coat of poly applied tonight. Then the fletching.

Can you share how to orientate the grain and nock to the bow string or shelf just incase someone dont know? What direction does the V point on top or bottom of the arrow and why? Staining sealing and fletching arrows are pretty easy. But the orientation of shaft to bow and nock is very imortant. If not done correctly arrows may not fly as well, could break in the wrong direction and hurt the archer, even though they are same spine all arrows have a stiff side. If all different they. Ould be hard to tune. etc.
