Anyone interested in a simple beginners leather project?
So I have been thinking of doing a simple leather change purse for a man to carry in the pocket.
It is flat, about the size of a wallet and you wouldn't have to buy a bunch of leather tooling.
I came up with this design a few years ago and I did a quick prototype and I love it and have been carrying it every sense.
I have been going to make myself another one that is a little nicer looking and was thinking of posting step by step pictures on here.
So any interest?

I'm interested in that kind of thing Graps...but my knowledge about leather is pretty limited and my tooling is even more so. Ive got a hole punch both commercial and a home made awl type. That's about it though. I'd love to see a "how to", if nothing else.
The element of surprise can never be replaced by persistence.

I'd love to watch a build-along. Funny thing with me though...since the age of debit cards, I never seem to have any cash on me any more.

This will need a piece of 7oz. vegetable tanned leather big enough to cut a rectangle 12" x 3 1/4".
Artificial sinew.
Tools ; 12" ruler at least, a good ball point pen, sharp knife like a good pen knife blade or replaceable blade type.
A good sharp awl or sewing machine needle, or get yourself a stitching awl. Remember this project can be cheep and simple to see if you like doing it.
I could also show you how to make your own tooling stamps from nails.

Hope you get to feeling better Graps, I noticed that you had turned green!
Maybe it’s just your name.

Keep in mind this doesn't have to be a change purse, it could be altered on the dimensions to be.........
A leather case to carry an extra bow string.
Carry a stack of plastic cards.
Keys.
you get the idea.
Also if you can find one of those cheep hex sockets that look like a pipe that has been formed into a hex, you can make a cool looking honeycomb pattern with it.
A star washer can be pushed in the leather and make a design.
Hex head self tapping screws do neat job too.
Philips head screw will make x and + marks inside a round indent.
A length of threaded rod laid on its side and tapped with a mallet will make an interesting border.
Use your imagination, think like a kid that is trying to make due.
Or you can just leave it plain. It doesn't have to be tooled.
