The hunt - Day 2 part 1.

I will start day 2 off with how surprised I was. After about a 4 mile hike overall with at least a 1200 ft change in elevation carrying a 25 lb pack. I wasn't all that sore. 🤔
The goal for day 2 was to go to a different area and follow a long draw up to a high mountain meadow about 3 miles up. Climbing some 1400 ft.
My friend says we have to really watch for grizzlies hear. He was false charged by one 2 years ago and had one come in and try and take an elk he shot in this area 3 years ago. 😯
The hike started just as we were starting to see light. After his encounters with Grizzlies, my friend avoids much hiking in the dark at this spot.

The draw had steep sides and made it hard to get any pics. About an hour up the trail we see a little sign of elk. We look things over and have 2 bunches of fresh tracks going 2 different directions. We deside to follow the tracks that go up a small finger draw to our right. The other tracks go up side hilling to our left. After about 500 to 600 yards up we decide to setup and do some calling. This time trying to be more patient and go about 30 minutes before moving on. A 30 minute session the day before may have made a difference. Who knows?
Nothing happens so we head back down to the bottom of the draw and proceed up the draw as planned. After about another hour or so we sit to take a break on a log. My friend is telling me about what we will be seeing as we move up the draw towards the high meadow. We were also playing around with our cow calls. I take some pics of my Elk Seeker longbow in the field.

Then while we are looking at my friends GPS where he had way points marking where he and another friend had each shot elk further up. All the sudden a Bull starts bugling down below us and possibly on the ridge across the draw. This draw that we are following is making a long curve up and around to our right. We decided to setup and do some calling hoping the elk were on their way up to bed somewhere.

After awhile the Bull quit responding to the cow calls. I then decided to try to bugle and see if I could get him fired up. He bugles a few times and I call back to him each time. After about 30 minutes things go silent again.
What should we do? Go towards him or continue up the draw?

To be continued.
