Tacoma- spilling beans
Well I'm finally able to post some of my hardships I've been through over the last couple months....well at least this one wasn't involving health or illness. I thought I'd be sick though.
Coming home with my wife (over a month ago), from my sisters while trapping problem coyotes, I ran into some problems...or a problem rather. It was just getting dark and we decided to swing by Wally world for a few things at the last minute. The road in that portion was at a much higher level then the ditches or surrounding fields/timber. So much so it's impossible to see anything but road at night for the very steep banks. Before I knew it, a good sized buck jumped right out in front of me, barely giving me time to apply the brakes hard from 65 mph and try to steer away carefully. It was unavoidable though, with nothing to do but smack him. I loved my 2007 Tacoma Off Road TRD...and I thought it was surely totaled though it was barely broken in with 162k on her.
The scene of the crime with wife unable to exit the passenger door. Pics from the nearby tow service lot the next day. The good news is, Tacomas have a very high resale value, so the insurance opted to fix it instead of paying me off. Luckily I have full coverage. The bad news is it had almost 9k worth of damage once the dust cleared, and it took over a month to get it back. They did an excellent job.

Re: Tacoma- spilling beans
I knew with the amount of damage, I'd be opting for a different truck. I just couldn't get past the idea of it with its age being 10+ years old. So I did a ton of shopping around, and made plans. I timed things so that the very day my truck was finished, I drove it to a Toyota dealership and got an appraisal and worked out a deal I could live with on a new 2017 TRD Off Road 4x4. The one I wanted they didn't have, so it took a couple days for the transfer.
I've had it now not quite 2 weeks....and I'm loving it! Already had it all muddied up even . Here is my new '17.

nice ride, how does your longbow fit? may be buying one come august when I hand my Silverado to my son.
Re: Tacoma- spilling beans
Bummer about your wreck but looks like things ended up favoring you, fine looking ride there! And another plus is that you got a Buck, that beats most of us!
Re: Tacoma- spilling beans
Wow congrats Jase, that looks like a sweet ride, those Toyota trucks are some of my favorites.

Re: Tacoma- spilling beans
Thanks everyone! Yeah the buck didn't fair well...but we didn't find him until the next day. He was laying an amazingly long distance away out in a harvested bean field. No salvaging him...ugh.
James, as you know I shoot reasonably short bows with 62" being the longest. I haven't tried to put a bow in the 17 yet but they would just barely fit in the 07, and the 17 has slightly more room. I will say, That coming from a Silverado, I'm thinking you won't care for the Tacoma. The new Colorado is really a bit bigger, more power, and more roomy cab then the Tacoma plus the Highway ride is better.(unless you get the sport suspension instead of the off road) However if longer life, better resale value, and superior off roading is your aim, then the Tacoma shines. But to answer your question yes my bows will fit...but not by a lot.

Looks like you turned a sow's ear into a silk purse, by golly! Glad you're OK, and that things worked out well for you!
BTW, gotta watch out for those kamikaze bucks. You're on their hit list, no doubt. Karma's a bitch!

Well this "karma" was not an even trade. At the outter most possible limit my last buck couldnt have cost more then a grand. All other bucks were maybe $100 at most....Captainkirk wrote:Looks like you turned a sow's ear into a silk purse, by golly! Glad you're OK, and that things worked out well for you!

This one deer cost me and the insurance almost 9k...
Not even close, and if "KARMA" is going to come, it should be coming to the DEER...not me!
I have full intentions of helping that along come next season too!
