Test driving broadheads

#1 Post by Carpdaddy »

It's time to narrow down on the arrows I use and to begin testing broadheads. I never have had any trouble as long as they are close in weight but I always spend some time shooting them before I begin putting an edge on them for hunting. Here is the initial lineup for testing.

My shooting was off today, or at least began that way. First shots with broadheads, all low and left!

Best flight today came from my new arrows cut to 29" with 200gr up front. Although the 2213 aluminum arrows pictured above with 250gr heads did well also. This ain't over!

Well on the way Carpy!

I'm going to be testing mine here soon.

As far as to how your broadheads are mounted, it doesn't really seem to matter which way, other than if you are bothered by it coming into your view. Do you guys mount them vertical, horizontal, or however they come out? I changed this year to vertical, always did it the opposite before.

The critters better watch out lol. Nice looking heads you got there. I have always wanted to try the Abowyer heads. Every year I say I'm going to and I don't. If im able to hunt this fall after surgery I'll be using my VPA 3 blades200grn and of course the 1957 razor heads. Both are tuned and ready to go out of my hunting rigs. As far as how I mount them I guess I have never paid attention to it. I just put wax in the threads ( to prevent rattling heads) and screw them on. i can't wait for this season.

I mount mine horizontally because someone told me to do it that way...
I would like to experiment with vertical mounting though to see if I notice a difference.

I used to mount mine vertically all the time. However a few years ago I was using wood arrows, and I didn't get em to tune out quite long enough, so when I'd draw, the back of the bottom blade would come up against my hand. So I turned them horizontally and have been doing so every since. I can't tell a bit of difference in flight, accuracy, or feel myself.
